How YOU can benefit from YOGA: Power Yoga is a powerful, energetic form of yoga where students fluidly move from one yoga pose to the next while connecting breath with movement. It incorporates strength, flexibility, balance, cardio, physical and mental stamina all in one session. If you’re an athlete, you can benefit from yoga whether you want to improve your performance, develop core strength, stretch your muscles or simply relax and unwind.

1. Mobility/Flexibility: Yoga improves joint and muscular flexibility, which is crucial to the body’s overall structural soundness.  Flexibility translates to greater range of motion, which means increase in performance in executing movements.

2. Pulse rate: A slower pulse rate indicates that the heart is strong enough to pump more blood with fewer beats. Regularly practicing yoga provides a lower pulse rate.
Circulation. Yoga improves blood circulation. By transporting nutrients and oxygen throughout the body, yoga practice provides healthier organs, skin, and brain.
Balance. Better balance and coordination means enhanced control over how you move the body, which in turn leads to better technique and form.

3. Respiratory: Want to “move fast, breathe slow”? Yoga decreases the respiratory rate through a combination of controlled breathing exercises and better fitness allowing the lungs to work more efficiently.
Cardiovascular endurance. A combination of lower heart rate and improved oxygenation to the body (both benefits of yoga) results in higher cardiovascular endurance.
Pain. Pain tolerance is much higher among those who practice yoga regularly. In addition to pain tolerance, instances of chronic pain, such as back pain, are lessened or eliminated through yoga.
Metabolism. Having a balanced metabolism results in maintaining a healthy weight and controlling hunger. Consistent yoga practice helps find the balance and creates a more efficient metabolism.

4. Relaxation: Slow down. Enough said.

5. Mental Control: Saved the best for last. Yes, you get lots of physical gains from Yoga but they’re nothing in comparison to work out your mind has received. Yoga works the brain and trains “mind over matter”.
